On the evening of August 16, members of our Club met at Hearts Alive to lend a hand to the amazing folks who run this organization. Helping our four-legged friends, as well as our neighbors, made this event a win win. Icing on the cake….playing with the kittens and pups!
We split up, helping with two specific jobs. Some of us entered the cat cottage and cleaned out litter boxes, while playing with the kitties. By the way, Pet Smart at Lake Mead and Rainbow, and PetCo in Centennial host their cat adoptions.
Others helped bag dog food. These bags will be brought to Street Dogs, whose mission is: “To ensure that no pet is surrendered due to a lack of resources on the part of their human.” From there, the bags will be handed to homeless pet owners.
Hearts Alive is committed to our animals AND fellow citizens. One of their branches is Charlie Mike, where they work closely with Veteran Case Workers. Among the services offered are covering veterinarian costs for our veterans, and offering temporary boarding or fostering of pets when the owners need help. Hearts Alive is always looking for people who are willing to temporarily foster these pets. Find out more at their website, http://www.havlv.com/charlie-mike.html.
Finally, Mark October 14 as this year’s Family Fur & Fun event. Sponsors, vendors and volunteers are needed.

Last week we heard from those two super great guys, Hal and Art from the Foundation Assisting Young Musicians or FAYM, about the awesome music and violin programs they offer children and whole families that otherwise wouldn’t be exposed to any type of music program. I for one am going to be checking the garage sales for gently used instruments to give to them for the kids. Both gentlemen were pretty amazing in their own right and their passion for bringing music to kids was very evident and great to see and hear.
As a Rotary Club our goal is to bring value to our local community.
Our Pets for Vets program is in co-operation with Hearts Alive Village and the program provides service animals as companions for veterans.
